Welcome to Rodolfo Martinez Morales homepage

My professional goal in environmental science is to improve our knowledge on a wide range of environmental issues and processes occurring in natural and human-modified systems including soils, forestry, watershed hydrology, climate and the earth atmosphere and agriculture. This knowledge constitutes a valuable asset, especially given the strong world interest in developing strategies for sustainable energy and food production, restoring degraded landscapes and increasing efforts to develop and implement climate change mitigation strategies. Specific research areas of interests include:

Remote sensing of environment and natural resources

Use of new remote sensing technologies for studies of ecosystem structure, function and biodiversity in the context of conservation and management; image processing, classification and land cover mapping, biophysical and biochemical information extraction from satellite imagery for landscape and regional characterization of forest health and productivity, invasive species and fires using multi-scale approaches.

kauai

GIS and spatial data analysis

GIS database design, analysis and visualization of geospatial data; spatial pattern analysis using geo-statistics.

Environmental Science

Vegetation and atmosphere interactions; the role of heterogeneity in ecological modeling; land surface parameterizations; ecosystem and landscape ecology.
